This view is from the NE corner of the 55 acres, looking west across the property, with an eight-mile-distant Rio Grande (not visible) flowing below the far Magdalena Mountains. Eight miles to the south along the Rio Grande (beyond the left side of the picture) is the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Preserve--wintering grounds for Sandhill Cranes. Twelve miles along Interstate 25 northward (beyond the right side of the picture) is the town of Socorro, New Mexico--home of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech). An hour to the south on I-25 is Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (formerly Hot Springs, NM) where natural, sulfur-free hot springs flow at temperatures of 100 to 107 degrees F from many wells in the town.
From this high point there is a 360-degree view across mostly BLM land, with no houses in sight to the far horizon--except for one neighbor 1/2 mile distant to the south (and from the Villa itself, that homestead is hidden from view, so the Villa is utterly private).
